Everybody Poops

Except my child. Seriously, there have been days (that feel like weeks) that he doesn't poop. Lots and lots of gas, but no dirty diapers. UNTIL, The Big One. We measure those days in wipes. Example:
Me: Jack pooped today
Christopher: Oh yeah?
Me: It was a 5 wipes poop

Last night was the mother of all. I lost count at 6 wipes and 3 diapers. Seriously, the kid wore 4 diapers in the span of 20 minutes. Thankfully Chris was there to hold the new diaper under him while he kept going and going and going. His rearend was like a commercial for the Energizer Bunny. As I'm sure you can all imagine, I'm dramatically squealing "Ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh" and Chris is calmly saying "Really? Do you need to panic?" YES I NEED TO PANIC, the kid has poop squirting out of him and we are "catching" it in a diaper THAT IS NOT ATTACHED TO HIS BODY! Seriously though, it was really funny.

Serious note, he really doesn't go. Hardly at all. I've called the doctor and have been told that many strictly breastfed babies don't poop very regularly. They've even heard of babies that have gone 18 days without a dirty diaper! Our record is 6....and I was panicking all 6 days. Can you imagine?

Jack + The Paci

Baby Jack is in love. True love. Mad love. Makes mom & dad crazy love. With what? His Paci. I now have a love/hate relationship with the paci. 99% of the time I love it. It's that 1%...the middle of the night...the up every hour searching for it that I hate. The past 3 nights have been challenging. Jack discovered how much he really truly loves his pacifier. And he really truly does not want it to fall out of his mouth. EVER.

On a side note....do I really need to go to bigger pacifiers after 3 months? Any mom know this answer?

1st trip to the ER

CHKD , the Children's Hospital in our backyard, is a fantastic facility. The doctors, nurses, and staff are top notch. We couldn't have asked for better. I stole next paragraph off their website. I wanted everyone to know exactly what this hospital is and thought they said it best.

In 1896, the Norfolk City Union of The King's Daughters was formed to provide health care for indigent mothers and their children. In 1961, The King's Daughters established Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters exclusively for children. Today the hospital is a comprehensive health care center, still carrying on the tradition of the founding King's Daughters to treat all children who need the special care available only at CHKD.

Tuesday night we took our first of what I'm told will be many trips to the ER. It was the scariest night of our lives. Luckily, everything has turned out just fine. Baby Jack is recovering well and we are moving on!

Tuesday morning Jack was fussy, stuffy, and not acting like himself. We took his temperature, perfect 98.6! We sent him to Grandma's and both of us headed to work. By 4pm he was lethargic, fussy, irritable to the touch, and thew up his entire bottle. I scheduled a Dr. visit and met Grandma there. The doctor took his temperature and sent us straight to CHKD ER. His fever was 103.3. They were worried about pneumonia and possible UTI. By the time we got there he was at 102.9. They gave him Tylenol and set us up in a room. We were there all night having numerous tests run. He had an IV, catheter, bloodpressure cuff, etc. He was a sad sight. The good news is the Tylenol was working and his fever was coming down. He had blood work done, urine analysis, and a bag of fluids. Because of the fever he was extremely dehydrated. After running all their tests and having us wait there until 2AM they decided he has a viral infection. They can't give him anything, we just need to try and keep his fever in check...lots of generic Tylenol. (the real deal has been recalled)

I don't think I can say it enough, but we are so lucky to have a great hospital right in our backyard and I couldn't be happier with the service. I'm so glad we are going to be fine, just treating the fever until it goes away (3-5 days). I've included some pictures of our horrible stay....baby Jack was such a trooper.

3 Months

Baby Jack is 3 months old now. WOW!

5.9.2010
Dearest Baby Jack,

Today you are 3 months old! One quarter of the way through your first year! WOW how time flies (I believe I said that last month). Today is also Mother's Day. Thanks to you (and dad) I'm celebrating for the very first time. But hey, this letter isn't about me...

3 months old and you laugh all of the time. EVERYTHING is funny; even dad's impressions. You make him think he's funny...good for you.

Eating is still #1 in your book. You eat every 3 hours, like clockwork. You're eating about 4-5 oz of breastmilk each time. You're happy...I'm happy. Life is good.

You can sit. In your Bumbo chair of course, but it's sitting nonetheless! I think sitting gives you a whole new outlook on life. At least the view is different anyway. We call sitting your new trick.

You still love to cry. Crying is hands down your favorite pastime. You can go from happy to sad in about 1 minute tops. From sad to outright screaming in no time flat.

You still DO NOT like to sleep. You prefer to catnap during the day. 20 minutes here, 20 minutes there. We are working on real naps, but you fight it. You kick, scream, wail...all while rubbing your eyes. However, you will nap for hours in your swing...you love that swing.

Sleeping at night is getting better. You are consistently awake every 3-4 hours. You wake up to eat, snuggle, and then head back to bed. Exhausting as it is, there is nothing else in this world I would like to do in the middle of the night.

You flew on an airplane. 4 planes to be exact. Norfolk to Atlanta to St. Louis. St. Louis to Detroit to Norfolk. You were awesome. Not a peep out of you the whole entire time. We were impressed. I think the other passengers on the plane were surprised.

This month we took you on a trip to Missouri. We went for a week to introduce you to your family there. We had a blast, the trip was non-stop, and you met gobs of people. Of course you charmed every single lady you saw. Dad and I have our hands full I'm sure. We had 2 parties in your name...you were fantastic, it was fun! Nana and Gramps got to show you off for 7 straight days.

Baby Jack you have made life absolutely incredible. We've opened our eyes to a whole new way of living! This version is much more chaotic, but we love every minute of it. You are our perfect little miracle. Our bundle of joy and we are so lucky to have met you 3 months ago. We can't wait for month 4. Every day is such a joy.

Dad and I talk about what you will sound like when you talk, when you will walk, what you will be when you grow up. We day dream about your future. What car you will drive, where you will go to school, what you will do for work. We also hope that someday you will meet the love of your life. Get married, have kids, and get to live this chaotic life we are living right now. Every minute is incredible.

We love you more than you will ever know,

Mom & Dad
